Vineyard Notes: The Heringers have been farming in Clarksburg since 1868. In the early 1970’s they were one of the first to plant vineyards on their property, pioneering the Clarksburg AVA. Now in their 7th generation, they grow many grape varieties in locations all around the Sacramento River delta, all farmed sustainably.
Cellar Notes: We received 3.5 tons of hand-picked fruit, which was destemmed to three 1-ton macrobins with no additions for native fermentation. The wine was dry on 10/17/21, then pressed on 10/19. It was racked to 7 neutral barrels for elevage, where it remained with regular topping until July 2022, when it was bottled unfiltered & with a minimal sulfur addition.
Tasting Notes: This is always a unique wine, defying expectations for a red with so much extraction. On the nose, it presents dried rose petals, blackberries, a mix of dried herbs, potting soil & cola. The palate is rich, but extremely smooth, with plum, blackberry, cocoa, river rocks & unexpectedly fine tannins, with savory umami qualities on the finish.
