Vineyard Notes: The Heringers have been farming in Clarksburg since 1868. In the early 1970’s they were one of the first to plant vineyards on their property, pioneering the Clarksburg AVA. Now in their 7th generation, they grow many grape varieties in many locations in the Sacramento River delta, all farmed sustainably.
Cellar Notes: We received 4 tons of fruit early in the morning. 1½ tons were deposited into the open-top tank whole cluster; the remaining 2½ tons were destemmed on top of the clusters. After 6 days of cold maceration, fermentation began. Fermentation took approximately 1 week, after which the wine was allowed to sit on the skins for another 3 days before being pressed & barreled down. After resting in barrel for 3 months, the wine was racked & returned to neutral barrels. The wine then continued elevage until being bottled unfined & unfiltered in February of 2022.
Tasting Notes: This wine displays all the distinctive notes of delta-grown Petite Sirah. Dark purple fruits such as plum & blackberry are dominant on the nose, with a touch of baking spice & an earthiness. It is surprisingly playful on the palate, with acid keepin it lively above a clove, sage & loam finish.
