Vineyard Notes: The Wilsons are 3rd generation farmers in Clarksburg, originally supplying sugar beets to the old sugar mill. They started planting grapes in the 1970s. Block 44 is off Babel Slough, about a mile SW of the pocket.
Cellar Notes: This was an almost perfect year for our Clarksburg Chenin Blanc, with the chemistry looking great out of the gate. As usual we split the lot between stainless steel & barrel fermentation, but also put a small amount in our terracotta amphora for that little bit of added complexity. After a very long natural fermentation, the entire lot was put into neutral barrels until bottling in May 2026.
Tasting Notes: This vintage represents a change of pace for our Chenin Blanc. Aromatically, it has a bit less of a mineral aspect & is more fruit-focused, with nectarine, green apple & lemon-lime. The palate has a slight bit of residual sugar, which lends a nice weight to the brisk acidity & ripe stone fruit flavors.
Pair With: Raw oysters, goat cheese, dover sole
