Vineyard Notes: Avio Vineyard is east of Sutter Creek on Ridge Road (very close to the Lyman Vineyard where we source our Vermentino). Their family is from Italian so they wanted to pay homage to their roots are known for their Sangiovese.
Cellar Notes: We had not made a varietal Sangiovese in a few years, so we wanted to try one from the foothills. We hand harvested the grapes and destemmed the clusters to macrobin & let it ferment natively. After fermentation, the wine was then racked to neutral oak until bottling unfiltered in January 2026.
Tasting Notes: Classic Sangiovese on the nose, with bright red fruits - red cherry, cranberry - & a touch of ripe tomato with a dried herb backdrop. The palate has good acid, moderate tannin & finishes very smooth, with cherry, raspberry & tobacco.
Pair With: Classic marinara sauce, sausage pizza, lamb chops
Label: We wanted to pay homage to Italy (also where Chef Gina's family is from) because why not?!
