Vineyard Notes: The Wilsons are 3rd generation farmers in Clarksburg, originally supplying sugar beets to the old sugar mill. They started planting grapes in the 1970s. Block 44 is off Babel Slough, about a mile SW of the pocket.
Cellar Notes: This was a perfect year for our Clarksburg Chenin Blanc; the chemistry looked great right off the vine. As usual we split the lot between stainless steel & barrel fermentation, but also put a small amount in our terracotta amphora for that little bit of added complexity. After natural fermentation, the entire lot was put into neutral barrels until bottling in January 2025.
Tasting Notes: As is typical with Chenin, the nose is very citrus & stone fruit oriented, with lemon rind, clementine, peach & nectarine leading to an herbal, mineral aspect. The palate is all racy acidity, with lemonade, wild thyme & oyster shell heading to a smooth & graceful finish.
Label: An ode to Sacramento days.
Pair With: Raw Oysters, Goat Cheese, or Dover Sole
