Vineyard Notes: Clockspring Vineyard was established in 1972 & has been certified organic since 1992. Nestled in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley area of Amador County, they grow Albarino, Zinfandel, Primitivo & Tempranillo. The single block of Albarino was planted in 2016 on the south side of Steiner Creek on a northwest-facing slope, providing it with ample afternoon sun, with the proximity of the creek helping to keep temperatures from spiking too high.
Cellar Notes: We liked the idea of bringing back Albarino this harvest & when we came across this fruit while looking for Primitivo, we decided to give it a test run. 2 tons, destemmed to press & fermented in all stainless steel, then aged further in stainless drums. The wine was botted in January 2025.
Tasting Notes: Though different than previous Albarinos we’ve made (all from Lodi), this wine represents the varietal beautifully. Citrusy grapefruit & pineapple dominate, with herbal undertones that remind you of dill or fennel. The palate is juicy, almost spritzy, with more citrus & nice minerality & freshness on the finish.
Pair With: Ceviche, Fried mushrooms, Kimchi jjigae
