Vineyard Notes: The Walkers have been growing grapes in El Dorado County since the 1930’s. Their 220 acre property, sitting at 2100 ft of elevation, is planted to Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Barbera & Petite Sirah. The 2023 Zinfandel was sourced from their front vineyard, where the head-trained Zinfandel vines were planted in the 1990’s & are clones of the original plantings from the 30’s, grafted on St George rootstock. The vineyard soil is a coarse loam with lots of sand.
Cellar Notes: Unfortunately, 2023 was the last harvest from this vineyard, as these vines were infected with a virus & pulled out after this harvest. It came in very ripe & with great acid. We destemmed the clusters and fermented in the concrete egg with a native fermentation. We then racked to barrel and it aged for about 30 months before being bottled unfiltered.
Tasting Notes: A very fruit-forward aromatic wine, with plum, cherry pie, baking spice & vanilla. The palate is bold & mouth-filling, with lots of ripe plum, clove, licorice & espresso on the finish.
Pair With: Hamburger, Pasta with red sauce, Eggplant parm
