Vineyard Notes: The Wilsons are 3rd generation farmers in Clarksburg, originally supplying sugar beets to the old sugar mill. They started planting grapes in the 1970s. Block 20 is on Courtland Rd, between Elk & Prospect Sloughs, & was planted in 1994.
Cellar Notes: We brought in 4 tons of fruit (nearly a month later than we harvested in previous years!), half of which was destemmed to the bladder press & left to soak for 30 min. The other half we stepped on in the picking bins to give it a headstart in picking up color. After the first batch was pressed off, we destemmed the remainder on top of those grapes let them soak for another hour before pressing again. The juice went to 2 tanks for fermentation because we made so much rose! Once both tanks were finished fermenting, the wine was racked together into tank with a small amount of Carignane rose & bottled in January 2024, unfiltered.
Tasting Notes: Though paler in color than previous vintages, there is no drop in complexity with this wine. The aromatics are delicately floral, with wild rose & gardenia accenting raspberry coulis & watermelon notes. The palate is acid-driven, bringing to mind lime zest, lime, raspberry & mint.
