Vineyard Notes: The Heringers have been farming in Clarksburg since 1868. In the early 1970’s they were one of the first to plant vineyards on their property, pioneering the Clarksburg AVA. Now in their 7th generation, they grow many grape varieties in locations all around the Sacramento River delta, all farmed sustainably. Located just across the river from Freeport, Genesis Ranch was taken over by the Heringers for the 2022 growing season.
Cellar Notes: We brought in 3 tons of this fruit in 2023, up from 2 in 2022. ¼ ton was destemmed directly into our amphora for a native skin-fermented lot, while the remainder was destemmed & pressed to tank. After cold settling, approximately 90 gallons of juice was racked to 2 neutral barrels for fermentation, with the rest remaining in stainless steel. The 3 lots were then blended together in January & bottled unfiltered & with minimal sulfur addition on 2/5/24.
Tasting Notes: This wine screams of perfume & florals. It reminds us of peach flowers, nectarines & white pepper on the nose, while the palate has good acid, good weight, & a faint saline & white tea presence.
