Vineyard Notes: The Wilsons are 3rd generation farmers in Clarksburg, originally supplying sugar beets to the old sugar mill. They started planting grapes in the 1970s. Block 44 is off Babel Slough, about a mile SW of the pocket.
Cellar Notes: This was our first year bringing in Chenin from Block 44 (Block 20, our usual source, was experiencing very low yields this year), but it was very similar in chemistry so we didn’t change much. The fruit was destemmed to tank, then racked to a mixture of neutral barrels & stainless steel for fermentation. Once dry, the entire lot was racked to neutral oak for a short period of aging, before being bottled unfiltered & with minimal sulfur addition on 1/19/24.
Tasting Notes: Gives off the perfect Clarksburg Chenin typicity aromas: lemon curd, limestone, white peach, peach flowers. The palate is racy, with mineral elements moderating the acid & an herbal, lemon zest edge.
