Vineyard Notes: Located on Lodi’s cooler western side, Cherryhouse Vineyard enjoys a moderate Mediterranean climate that receives the cooling delta breezes from the nearby San Francisco Bay. The area is known for its deep, fertile soils -- Tokay Sandy Loam which is extremely well-drained for an alluvial soil. Vines were planted in 1975 & are head-trained. Conventionally farmed, but with minimal synthetic inputs.
Cellar Notes: Received over 3 tons of fruit & destemmed to 3 macrobins. 11 day fermentation, after which the wine was racked to neutral barrels. A small amount of Stampede vineyard Zinfandel was blended in at the first racking to add some acidity. Aging continued until January 2024, when the wine was racked & then bottled unfiltered on 2/5/24.
Tasting Notes: Massive cherries dominate the nose, with watermelon, coriander spice & fruit leather to back them up. The palate is silky with umami characteristics, more cherries & well-integrated tannins.
