Vineyard Notes: The Wilsons are 3rd generation farmers in Clarksburg, originally supplying sugar beets to the old sugar mill. They started planting grapes in the 1970s. Block 20 is on Courtland Rd, between Elk & Prospect Sloughs, & was planted in 1994.
Cellar Notes: 2 tons destemmed into bins for native fermentation on the skins. Punched down 3x daily throughout fermentation, which ended on 9/7/22. Wine was pressed off the skins to 4 barrels, one of which was 1-year old new French Oak. The barrels were stirred several times during elevage to expose the wine to lees. This wine was bottled without filtration in July 2023.
Tasting Notes: Despite remaining on the skins throughout fermentation, this Chenin is not overly tannic or bitter. It has a pleasant herbal edge on the nose, with lemon zest, oregano & a hint of green tea. On the palate, it is brisk & racy, showing bright lemon, smooth stone & toasted rice.
