Vineyard Notes: The Walkers have been growing grapes in El Dorado County since the 1930’s. Their 220 acre property, sitting at 2100 ft of elevation, is planted to Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Barbera & Petite Sirah. The head-trained Zinfandel vines were planted in the 1990’s & are clones of the original plantings from the 30’s, grafted on St George rootstock. The vineyard soil is a coarse loam with lots of sand.
Cellar Notes: 2 tons whole cluster foot treaded to bins; no adds for native fermentation. After fermentation the wine was pressed & racked to neutral oak barrels. Approx 15% Zinfandel from Cherryhouse Vineyard in Lodi was blended into the wine to fill in the palate. Bottled unfiltered & with minimal sulfur addition in July 2023.
Tasting Notes: A dark fruit aroma consisting of black cherry, plum, fig, & blackberry is supported by nice black tea & dried flowers. The palate is juicy, with blackberry, cherry, coriander & more tea adding to the considerable structure.
