Vineyard Notes: Camino Alto is located high in the foothills north of Camino, CA in El Dorado County. It is farmed by Ron Mansfield who oversees the vineyards of some of the best wineries in the foothills. His family has been growing grapes, peaches, plums, pears & apples in the foothills for three generations.
Cellar Notes: Due to the threat of a nearby wildfire in 2021, we elected to harvest this Cabernet Franc early, rather than risk the possibility of smoke taint on the fully ripe fruit. We decided to make it as a rosé since the sugar levels were lower than we would generally like for a red wine. We received 2.6 tons of fruit which was destemmed to press & left to macerate for approximately 30 minutes. We then used a light press cycle to move the juice to tank for fermentation. After fermentation, the wine was racked off the lees, then cold-stabilized, filtered & bottled in December.
Tasting Notes: This rosé presents rich, luscious fruits like pluot, blackberry & lychee before transitioning to a cotton-candy-like finish that highlights its slight sweetness on the palate. Smoke taint did make its way into this wine so there are smoky rosé notes and we're here for it!
