Vineyard Notes: Gandyhill Vineyard is a small (3 acre) vineyard planted in 2005 in southern Sacramento County, near the town of Wilton. We harvest from this vineyard for our field blend -- named “Elidé” -- and it has consistently been one of our best wines. The vineyard is completely organic, with attention focused on vine health, irrigation methodology, hand-pruning and canopy management to produce the best fruit.
Cellar Notes: Harvested early in the morning and destemmed for a tank fermentation, this wine was pressed to neutral oak barrels for elevage. As a true field blend, all of the four varieties are harvested at the same time and co-fermented together to create this blend. The 2016 field blend is 52% Sangiovese / 28.5% Malbec / 14% Cabernet Franc / 5.5% Petite Verdot.
Tasting Notes: Blackberry, cherry, dried pine needle, cedar & clove aromas. In the mouth, this is a serious wine, with layered flavors of blackberry, cranberry, cedar, baking spice & baking chocolate.
