Our reserve Chardonnay is put together of the Winmaker's three favorite barrels from the 2018 vintage.
Vineyard Notes: Planted in1998, lying south of Grant Line Rd along the Cosumnes River just southeast of Elk Grove. This vineyard is within the Sacramento County limits which allows us to put Sacramento County on the label! With fertile floodplain soils providing ample nutrients, this vineyard also benefits from the nearby Sacramento River delta to moderate the long hot summer days.
Cellar Notes: Received five tons of fruit in the morning, grapes were destemmed and pressed to tank for cold settling, then half of the juice was put to neutral barrels to ferment, the other half put in stainless steel. The stainless fermentation was pumped over several times to encourage oxygenation, then was racked to barrel after dryness. The barrel fermentations were racked off of lees immediately after dryness & returned to barrel. While many of the barrels were used to blend into the 2018 regular release Chardonnay, the winemakers reserved their three favorite barrels to make up this reserve release.
Tasting Notes: Very perfumed on the nose with citrusy, herbal qualities & a background of pear & macadamia nut. The palate is clean & apple-like, with a touch of caramel on the back end.
