WINE IN CAN! PERFECT FOR YOUR ADVENTURES! #revinthewild
Vineyard Notes: Outside of France’s Loire Valley, the Clarksburg AVA is one of the only locations where the Chenin Blanc grape shows true varietal character. These vineyards thrive in the Sacramento delta’s long hot summer days, nicely moderated by the surrounding mass of water, cool breezes from San Pablo Bay, and regular morning fogs, producing fruit that is consistently brightly acidic as well as full of fruit & mineral characteristics. The Wilson’s are 3rd generation farmers in Clarksburg, originally supplying sugar beets to the old sugar mill. They started planting grapes in the 1970s.
Cellar Notes: For 2018 we brought in 2 separate picks of Chenin blanc from Wilson Vineyards. The earlier pick, from the cooler Block 44 was fermented in barrel. It was not inoculated for malolactic fermentation, but went through on its own. Barrels were stirred twice before racking & blending. The second pick was from Block 20. This wine was fermented in stainless steel & ML was prevented. The final blend is approximately 48% barrel fermented & 52% stainless.
Tasting Notes: True to the nature of Chenin Blanc, this wine has acid aplenty. It has a lovely lemon/lime flower bouquet, with lemon zest & jasmine along for the ride. In the mouth, it is zippy & minerally, with white peach, a limestone mouthfeel & lemon balm on the finish.
