COFERMENTED VERMENTINO & SYRAH + COFERMENTED ALBARINO & ZINFANDEL = COCO
Vineyard Notes: Sourced from multiple vineyards. 14% Albarino (Terra Alta Vineyard, Lodi) / 31% Zinfandel (Cherryhouse Vineyard, Lodi) / 30% Syrah Fields Family Vineyard (Lodi) / 15% Vermentino (Lyman Vineyard, Amador County)
Cellar Notes: Coco was a bit of an experiment; we got the idea to play with a couple of corferments, & chose to use the 4 varieties above because of their complementary characteristics & because they were ready to harvest at around the same times. We did 2 fermentations: one with the Albarino (just juice) & Zinfandel & the other with Syrah & Vermentino (grape skins included). Both were left to ferment on their own, then pressed to neutral oak barrels. After some initial tasting, we decided early on to blend the 2 coferments into a single wine (hence “CoCo”). This was done in February 2021 & the wine was put back in barrel until bottling without filtering in May 2021.
Tasting Notes: Bold aromatic fruits predominate, with cherry, pomegranate & blood orange making appearances. There is a touch of spicy white pepper & peppermint on the nose as well. The wine is light & playful on the palate, with great acidity & flavors of rose petals, cranberry & warm spices.
Artwork: Lunia Blue. Our collage style labels represent Revolution - a little old school but with a urban twist. These labels are meant to push boundaries so that you can come up with your interpretation. This collage in particular is very exciting as this is a picture of our winemaker, Colleen, from her recent wedding!
