The perfect summer white!
Vineyard Notes: Sitting at approximately 2700 ft above sea level, overlooking the confluence of the North & Middle Forks of the American River in Placer County, this vineyard experiences a dramatic diurnal temperature swing -- with hot, sun-drenched days giving way to crisp clear nights on a regular basis. This encourages the fruit to full ripeness while still preserving a beautiful natural acidity that shines through in the finished wine. The soils are iron-rich mud overlaying bedrock strata of slate & shale, ensuring a mineral-rich source of nutrients for the vines.
Cellar Notes: Upon visiting the vineyard to sample Roussanne, we decided that the Roussanne vines did not look healthy & were not producing quality fruit. Colleen asked if we could take Grenache Blanc instead. We harvested 2.5 tons at just over 23 brix. The grapes were destemmed to press & racked to tank to cold settle. We left this wine with just a touch of residual sugar to be enjoyed on a hot Summer day.
Tasting Notes: The aromas are distinctly of wildflower honey & chamomile, while in the palate there is an earthy, apricot edge with hints of lime. It is mouth-filling, with a slight perceived sweetness, and lasts a long time in the throat.
